Installing PHP-APC on a cPanel Server

HomepageArticlesInstalling PHP-APC on a cPanel Server

The apc extension must be loaded for using this backend

The original article describes a manual APC installation on a cPanel server when the Apache build interface was not used for that extension.

It gives the following SSH commands in order. The initial d command is reproduced as written in the source and requires technical review.

d /usr/local/src
wget http://pecl.php.net/get/APC-3.1.8.tgz
tar -zxvf APC-3.1.8.tgz
cd APC-3.1.8
phpize
./configure --enable-apc --enable-apc-mmap --with-apxs --with-php-config=/usr/local/bin/php-config
make
make install

The article then describes adding the following settings to php.ini:

extension="apc.so"
apc.enabled=1
apc.shm_segments=1
apc.shm_size=128

It finishes by restarting Apache with service httpd restart. These instructions refer to the legacy APC version in the source, not a verified current installation guide.
