Technical update: 22 October 2026. cPanel manages a hosting account’s web files, domains, databases and other offered features. WHM is the server/reseller administration layer. A cPanel account does not imply root access.
Use the verified panel address supplied by your provider. Do not share passwords or session URLs, and enable two-factor authentication where available. Menus, permissions and features depend on the package and panel version.
Upload files to the correct domain document root. Create a separate database user with the necessary privileges. Adding a domain in the panel does not always configure authoritative DNS correctly; check the DNS provider too.
MultiPHP Manager manages PHP settings for available domains. CloudLinux PHP Selector, where offered, is a separate component. Check application/plugin compatibility and backups before changing a version, and test the website afterwards.
Mail features depend on the package. Creating a mailbox does not prove MX, SPF, DKIM and sending policies are correct. Understand retention and restore permissions as well as whether a backup file was created.
Do not recursively apply 777 permissions, edit application files without backups or randomly downgrade PHP to fix an error. Server package and service changes belong within the provider’s administration scope.
Confirm panel, account limits and permissions for web hosting or reseller hosting. Assess business mail servers and backup options against their actual service scope.
