Before uploading a website, identify its document root, back up existing files and check whether the application needs a database. Use the control panel's file manager or a transfer protocol supported by your provider.
Prefer SFTP or FTPS over plain FTP when supported. SFTP uses SSH, whereas FTPS protects FTP with TLS. They are different protocols; obtain the server, port and account details from your service instructions. The WordPress file transfer guide also recommends encrypted methods.
For a move to a hosting account, review the hosting migration scope. Schedule DNS changes after testing the files and database, and decide how writes made during migration will be synchronised.
